ERASING GRACE SMASHES THE PATRIARCHY WITH A GLORIOUSLY GRITTY COMING -OF-AGE DEBUT RECORD
Only five women over the age of 40 have ever had a No. 1 hit in the history of music. Let that sink in!
Rife with misogyny and gender-based ageism, the music industry is tough to crack for women over 30.
But rebellious emerging artist Erasing Grace smashed through the patriarchy when she released a gloriously gritty debut record - on her 35th birthday.
The first of four singles set for 2021 release, Shoot Me, channels the feminist punk rock defiance needed to smash through the patriarchy.
Taking inspiration from heroines of rock PJ Harvey, Elastica, Patti Smith and Hole, grunge fans will be hooked on Erasing Grace’s moody goth rock and Riot Grrl anthems.
For the woman behind the music, this record represents a watershed moment. A climatic coming of age. A super power gained with age. A right of passage.
Fierce, feminine and creatively potent.
“The songs I wrote in my 20’s were full of cringe and cliches. My time is now - my vocals have gained an edge - raw and gritty - and my lyrics are richer”
The frontwoman likens songwriting to cashing in a "lifetime of oppression and resistance" - a worthwhile exchange resulting in powerful songs that capture the zeitgeist of her 1990s youth.
Erasing Grace’s explicit first single Shoot Me is an adrenaline fuelled apathetic post-punk anthem that showcases a rawness and an incredible vocal range. Distorted guitars build to a massive, angry chorus and stomach sinking, tribal drums.
Running Out Of Reasons, also out now, is a harrowing goth-rock song weaved with achingly sad lyrical symbolism - depicting suicidal ideation with haunting harmonies describing death and "the gallows of [my] garden"
Set for release on 2nd July, the third single Hurricane Hill describes the sound as “melodically resigned guitar loops, lo-fi beats, and minor chords. Lyrically this track tells a candid, almost laid-back tale of the cyclical inevitability of pressing self-destruct."
Last to be released in August is a cover of PJ Harvey's Rid of Me - the perfect grunge track delivered with Erasing Grace’ signature vocals and heavy guitar.
Erasing Grace’s impressive debut releases scream of feminist disaffection, furious vulnerability, and painful alienation.
Iconic songs that jar into the canon of rock misogyny in the way that only a riot grrrl can.
